Team Departure in Atlanta

Buenos Noches!

We are excited to be back in Nicaragua for another week of life changing healthcare! I am Sarah Voges the Team Director and I’d like to welcome you to join along in our exciting trip by following our blog during this week.

We are so excited to have our teams from Charleston, SC lead by Dr. Del Schutte and from Greenville, SC lead by Dr. Jim Jennings back again this year. We have a new team along with us for the first time, they are from Hilton Head, SC and lead by Dr. Kirk Johnson.

So far we have had an exciting trip, with long layovers we have had the chance to become acquainted as a team. We had a short delay going through customs in the airport in Managua, but with a little patience we made it through with all our equipment, medicines, instruments, and implants accounted for. Whew!

Oscar Ibarra, our One World Health Volunteer Coordinator here in Nicaragua, was at the airport to greet us. We are so grateful to have him as our guide and translator, as well as our friend. His service to us is invaluable. After a short introduction of Oscar to the group, as well as our driver Julio (the best driver in all of Nicaragua!), we were well on our way to Grenada to rest our heads for the night before we make our long trip up to the hospital tomorrow.

Tomorrow is our unpacking day, where we will arrive in the OR, set up our equipment and supplies. With a group of 31 volunteers, we make it look easy, all I know is that I could not do my job without the hard work of those around me. We have an amazing group this year! I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together this week.
We’d love to thank all of our support at home, without you this trip would not be possible!

Until tomorrow…

Sarah Voges, FNP
